Public art installation, 2019-ongoing
As part of Westminster’s planned pedestrianisation of the Strand Matthew was invited to propose a permanent public artwork for the site. The work will consist of projected people of the Strand Aldwych occupying the five empty niches of the 300-year old St Mary le Strand, with accompanying texts projected onto the empty plaques below. Stood alongside one another, in their niches, this series of projected ‘occupants’ will tell an evolving, diverse, complex and unexpected story of this area’s contemporary identity. The project is currently in the planning phase and is due to be installed in 2022.
